Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world and shares its borders with all other countries on the South American continent except for Ecuador and Chile. Geographically, Brazil is very diverse, from the isolated tropical Amazon jungle in the north, where access can only be gained by river, to dry non-tropical areas, beautiful coastlines and large busy cities.

Brazilians work as hard as they party, frown on showing anger or disagreement in public, and, rich or poor, believe that happy times spent with family and friends are, all in all, the most rewarding pursuits of all.

Family life
In Brazil the family is a very close unit and often includes all relatives, especially if they live close to each other and activities will often include family get-togethers. Household tasks are generally the responsibility of the women in the household and repair work is the responsibility of the men, who traditionally have financial responsibility for the family.

Community Service in Brazil
Community-based programmes include assisting teachers at a dance school for children from extremely poor communities, helping at a shelter for street kids by teaching them how to read and write or caring for children at an orphanage.

It is strongly preferred participants have previous involvement in professional and/or academic activities related to the community work project they will be undertaking.
